I teach outside, in a shop, a lab, or a fabrication facility. I develop untraditional learning ideas that require strict safety guides yet allow for organic learning. In my line of work, the teacher is still the center of focus, but only for a portion of the time. Much of the learning is derived from doing.
You learn a vocation by observing the teacher. A student then takes this direct knowledge and applies it to directed projects that “stack” knowledge to build to the next level of learning.
Todays learning has become a more complex collaboration between the instructor, the learner, and the medium. My learning design is a framework of constructivist, hands-on, industrial hard skills mixed with some direct knowledge and lots of safety protocols. It is not lost on me, and my engineering and vocational background, that there are other learning methods, and I have extensively tried to learn and utilize them during my ISDT career.
MyLearning Design Journey
Student-Centered learning is effective as project-based
How to develop Hands-on learning in multiple environments
Learning what Pedagogy was and how to apply it
Learning how much and often to use assessment
Learning design is the new “Instructional design.”
Although I am a huge believer in experiential learning, I am becoming a big fan of the research validation processes of Learning Sciences.
Curriculum development should always follow a rigorous needs analysis, mission statement, and defined outcomes.

All of these assignments were created using Articulate RISE. As a former IT professional I like to stay on the cutting edge of technology. Each one of these Rise presentations is complete and informs the user of the subject material in a concise and structured vision. Please click on the presentation below for the full experience.
This was written as an assignment for ISDT 7351. I paralleled this assignment with an actual working document for the Zachry Engineering Labs where I was the General Manager. The framework for this assignment was to identify a need and write a survival guide to meet the need.
This is a professional development training course I developed for the Texas A&M College of Engineering in 2021. This was also an assignment in ISDT 7350.
This course was one of the first training modules I designed using Articulate Rise. It is a self-contained module with embedded quizzes and a certificate of completion.
This was the final presentation module of ISDT 7325. I worked with a partner to develop this presentation.. Field studies was an eye-opening experience for me.

During the Spring of 2022, I was interning for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). My main role was to create a training module for the Parole Division. I worked with a supervisor and five Subject Matter Experts (SME) to build the module in Articulate Studio.
Additionally, I was tasked to be the team leader in developing a storyboard script for Employee and Inmate Relationships.

For my Doctoral Internship class ISDT 7385 I worked for the Secure America Institute as a technical writer and course developer.
I wrote Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and policy guidelines for a multi-million dollar Institute. Additionally I designed and built a Canvas Catalog for internal training needs.
To the left is an SOP I wrote to define ID card access to the Secure America Institute facility.
Using my previous experience in facility and makerspace management, the Secure America director tasked me with writing small vocational course for the users of the facility.
As the Secure America Institute was getting ready for their open house the director asked me to help the communication team with a storyboard. Using Canva and Sketchup I drew the 3D models of the facility and put together this quick visual storyboard.
The communication used my storyboard to create video and photo stills along with rendered versions of my Sketchup 3d models to make a four minute presentation video.
This is the published video using my 3D models and script I wrote for the presentation.
At the end of the internship I was required to write a summary of what I worked on over the summer. The report was approved by Dr. Darrell Wallace, Chief Technology Officer of the Secure America Institute.
Learning design courseworkSupplementaryEvidence
For the past 3 years I have developed supplemental artifacts in both my academic courses and my professional career.
Here are a few example of items I have developed.
I developed this rubric for one of my POPUP classes for the Engineering Innovation Center.
THe rubric was available for students to determine what they would need to know to pass the class.
This infographic was created using CANVA. It was an assignment designed to enhance the presentation in ISDT 7351.
